Rank-list context
CRL versus category rank in JoSAA cutoffs.
The number on a cutoff row is meaningful only when it is compared with the matching rank list on the candidate's result.
OPEN rows use the Common Rank List
For regular JoSAA IIT and NIT tables, OPEN rows are read against CRL. OPEN (PwD) is a distinct row and should not be treated as ordinary OPEN.

Reserved rows use their matching category list
EWS, OBC-NCL, SC and ST cutoff rows in the regular JoSAA files use the respective category rank list. Comparing an OBC-NCL closing rank with an OPEN CRL produces a false conclusion.

CSAB publishes a different basis
The CSAB Special source used here states that every category row uses All India CRL. That is why CSAB pages keep their rank basis visible and separate from regular JoSAA pages.
